We are seeking an experienced, opinionated and detail-oriented Product Designer to conceptualize, design, and define a comprehensive CSS-based component library. This library will serve as the building blocks of our product’s front-end experience, providing consistent, reusable UI components and a cohesive design language. Your work will guide developers, ensuring a seamless handoff of design assets and supporting documentation. The end result will be a style and component framework akin to well-known libraries like Bulma and Bootstrap.
Establish and document a cohesive design language including typography, color palettes, spacing, iconography, and grid systems
Define a visual style that is modular, scalable, and easily maintainable across various product interfaces
Conceptualize and design a comprehensive set of reusable UI components—buttons, forms, navigation elements, modals, alerts, tooltips, and more—that align with our design principles
Develop data visualization components such as tables, charts, and graphs that are both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional
Ensure components adhere to responsive design best practices, offering consistent experiences across multiple screen sizes and devices
Produce thorough documentation and style guides that detail usage guidelines, component states, and interaction patterns
Prepare component libraries in a ready-to-implement format (e.g., Figma, Sketch, or similar tools) and work with developers to ensure a seamless handoff
Create annotated design specifications, redlines, and code-ready references that streamline developer implementation
Participate in design critiques and continuously refine and iterate on the library, ensuring it meets evolving product needs.The Product Designer will take inspiration from and evolve our current product design to create designs for a comprehensive and reusable component library. The designer should bring strong and prescriptive opinions about UX design as this work will guide the future of internal and external projects.
4+ years of professional experience in product design or UI design with a focus on scalable, component-based systems
A strong portfolio demonstrating the design of cohesive UI systems, pattern libraries, or frameworks (visual examples of component libraries are a plus)
Expertise in using design tools (e.g., Figma) for creating and maintaining component libraries
Solid understanding of CSS methodologies, responsive design principles, and front-end technologies
Familiarity with design tokens, style guide generation, and popular CSS frameworks (e.g., Bulma, Bootstrap, Tailwind)
Strong attention to detail, ensuring high-quality, pixel-perfect deliverables
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and provide rationale for design decisions
Openness to feedback, coupled with a proactive mindset for improving and refining work
Strong opinions about UX design
This is a contract role with flexible hours and a defined project scope
The duration of the contract will be determined based on agreed-upon milestones and deliverables.
